WHAT AI CAN’T REPLACE

The power of a photograph is so underestimated.

In this digital world where everything is at our fingertips, seeing people still pull out their old family albums to reminisce is something extra special.

Last month, I sat down with Dawn & Don to learn about their incredible 74 years of life together. From a sheep farm out near the Batman Bridge to the home they have now lived in for 20 years, they have a lifetime of stories to share.

Their photographs brought those stories to life, taking them back to the good old days & introducing me to parts of their lives I would otherwise never have seen.

I went to photograph their love and realised just how much these beautiful people have seen in a lifetime.

Yet it wasn’t their phones they pulled out to share their photographs. It was their albums they wanted to show me.

Between those pages and the physical prints on their memory wall, I could see just how much these photographs meant to them. They weren’t just stored somewhere. They were part of their home, their conversations and their everyday lives.

And the best part… AI has no say in any of their images

There’s no pretending. These were people, places & moments they actually lived.

Photographing their beautiful session reminded me of what AI can’t replace.

The emotions.

The gestures.

The candid moments.

The conversations.

The history behind a photograph.

A print gives you something to hold while you tell those stories. Something to pull from an album, point to on a wall & share with the next generation.

Dawn & Don reminded me just how precious that is.

The photographs I took of Dawn & Don now become part of that history too. They keep a record of their love, and who they are in this chapter in their lives.

AI can create an image. But it wasn’t in that room with us. It didn’t hear their stories or witness their love. I did...
